By Richard Attenkah — Thousands of Ghanaians last Sunday trooped to the Tema Dry Dock to embark on a tour of the ultra modern DP3 oil and gas ship, Jascon 30, which has berthed there for the past six weeks, for normal periodic maintenance works. The visitors were conducted through almost all the various departments of the vessel, including the deck, boxing gym, three recreational and/or cinema rooms, welding workshop, restaurant and helicopter landing ground among others.
The number of the visitors was so large that they had to be allowed into the vessel in batches of 10 to 15, to be conducted round the vessel by one crew member, who explained to them the rules and regulations on board the vessel, as well as what each department stood for.
The tour was made possible by the newly-established company, Sea Trucks Offshore (Ghana Limited), an affiliate of Sea Trucks Groups and their local Ghanaian partner, Silica Oil Service Limited, to showcase their capabilities, and what they could offer the local oil industry to the Ghanaian public, and the major players in the industry as well.
The Jascon 30, measuring 111 metres in length, and 31 metres in breadth, can operate in offshore waters at any depth, and works as a pipe laying vessel, as well as installation or construction vessel for all kinds of offshore works in oil fields.
The ultra-modern DP3 oil and gas ship could also serve as accommodation or floating hotel for 350 people.
Mr. Robert Speijer, General Manager of Sea Trucks Offshore Ghana, said his outfit was committed to working in close collaboration with its local partners, saying, “This is evident in the relationship we currently enjoy with our local partner, Silica Oil Service Limited, through whom, all offshore marine and engineering works would be secured.
“Among the strengths of this association are a good knowledge, not only of the Ghanaian market, but also of the West African sub-region, coupled with state of the art plant and equipment, which are all in close proximity to Ghana, and which will ultimately reflect in competitive project costs by way of reduced mobilisation charges,” he explained.
Mr. Speijer continued that as part of their commitment to do business in Ghana, Sea Trucks Groups had, in the last 10 months, committed significant amounts of investment capital, not only by way of establishing a presence in Ghana, “But also by bringing businesses to the Ghanaian economy, through the dry-docking of her flagship DP3 construction or pipe laying vessel, the Jascon 30 at the Tema ship yard.”

Thanks a lot for this news, its nice getting to know what is happening over there in the Ghana oil sector and the newest development. my question now is how possible is it for one to get a job after acquiring a certificate on foundational oil & gas drilling and HSE.
